A Sony patent has pointed to the potential release of a PlayStation controller with slots for charging earbuds.
GameRant spotted the recently published patent which reveals a design for a controller that acts as both an input device and a headphone storage, charging, and connection case.
“Using the controller as a headphone case and an earbud charger eliminates the need to manage two separate devices,” the patent reads. “This simplifies the overall user experience as the user has one less device to manage communication with the gaming device.”
While many patents never turn into released products, such a DualSense would make sense in the context of Pulse Explore, PlayStation’s first official pair of wireless earbuds. It’s also worth noting Sony’s recent interest in portable PlayStation gaming, with the upcoming launch of new PS5 streaming handheld PlayStation Portal.
It’s busy times on the PlayStation hardware front. Sony is about to launch the PS5 Slim, which has a reported release date in the U.S. PlayStation Portal launches November 15. Sony’s PlayStation Access controller is due to launch later this year, too.
